Shafikeh Attai, who lives in Herat province of Afghanistan. Age 40 years. Study-work… She has only this much resume, but at present she is the owner of a saffron company and is giving employment to more than 1000 women. Shafikeh opened a saffron export company in 2007. His company deals in 60 acres of saffron cultivation, harvesting, processing and packaging.

However, the Taliban regime in Afghanistan has raised their concerns. Shafikeh says, 'I could have quit for fear of the Taliban, but I didn't because it took me years to build this company. I have worked hard for this and I cannot waste this hard work. My company is built by women for women.'

He said that its owners are also women and women working too. No one can make us stop work by intimidating us. A woman who works hard day and night, no one can ignore her. We will not stop working. We will raise our voice so that it reaches their ears.

Saffron is cultivated on 5000 acres in 31 provinces;
Saffron is cultivated in about 5000 acres in 31 provinces of Afghanistan in Herat . The country's annual production is 6 metric tons (about 6000 kg). Several varieties of saffron are grown in Afghanistan. The saffron here is also the most expensive in the world, whose price starts from Rs 3.75 lakh per kg.

Earlier people used to stay away from saffron cultivation and preferred opium cultivation, but due to good production and good price of saffron, people have started joining its cultivation. About 12 years ago, there was only one ton of saffron in the country, which has increased to 6000 kg. Now, however, experts believe that saffron production may decline after the Taliban rule in Afghanistan.
